New Apartment

Well, it's official, I have a new place!

I took off Friday for the move. Waking up early in the morning I took my first load over to the new place. You'll see the picture below. Pack in front, pack in back, and another bag on the back rack. It looks like a lot, but it wasn't too bad; mostly clothes. The second, and final trip was the real challenge—food. Apparently 75 pounds worth. Yes I have a scale, yes I measured it, and yes, I'm impressed that I did not wreck. AND wow! That's a lot of food! Apparently my old bachelor diet of eating out all the time has gone to the wayside and I now make my own food. And apparently everything I buy comes in very heavy glass. Thank goodness for well-constructed bags.

By 2:30 the rest of my stuff arrived that got shipped over from the states. Unfortunately I didn't get to see them use the hook to haul my stuff up...but instead I got a very modern lift. It's a platform that elevated my goods from the street, 4 stories up, into my window. Pretty nifty. I kept thinking my stuff would fall off the lift, but it managed to stay on. Here's a video:

In a half hour everything was unloaded, and the moving men were on their dandy way. And so the unpacking began! I discovered a pair of Mom's homemade beeswax candles in one of the first boxes. These particular ones were made from a very old mold that she recently (-ish) got from Nana. I don't know if any smell has filled me with so much joy as these did. The other pairs in my hands (wrapped up) are ones we dipped this past Christmas. Nothing like homemade beeswax candles to feel at home.

Bedroom—I still need to get a bed, so the bedroom is still in disarray. I had one delivered yesterday, but it couldn't fit up the stairs (or in my window) so I had to return it. I'll hopefully be getting a replacement soon. Something that comes in pieces that I can assemble. Until I get that, the bedroom won't quite be complete. For now I'm happy sleeping on the foam mattress on the floor though. Here's a little peek of a nook in the room that has the main window that they hauled all the boxes in through on Friday:

Here is a video of the place. Since it was too large of a file, I had to cut it into pieces.
So, I apologize for any weird slices.

Bedroom Is Complete (Updated Aug 13th):

Friday night. The first supper. What shall it be? Spaghetti of course! First time I've had a gas stove since living with mom and dad. I'm pretty happy about it.

Bon Appetit:

After having clouds much of Sunday, the sun decided to peek out it's head right around dinner time. So it was the perfect opportunity to test the terrace. And the terrace worked most swimmingly.

It's been a long weekend of unpacking, but I'm happy so say it's nearly over and I have a place I can call home :)

And the place looks wonderful. Glad to see you in such a warm and homey environment. Time to let the living abroad begin in earnest.
