Why Amster-Shh!?

Hello friends and family. As most of you know, my Portland based company, Wieden+Kennedy, has offered me a position in the Amsterdam office. I'm going to be living over here for an indefinite amount of time, during which I plan to get to know this charming city, and travel Europe as much as possible. I've decided to create this blog for you. I figured this might be the best way to keep many curious minds at ease. So, I'll do my best to update this fairly regularly, so that you can have some idea of how my new life is unfolding.

So why Amster-shh!?
When I was home just prior to taking off to come here, my father reminded me of a song that my Nana used to sing us girls when I was very young. This was my first time I ever heard of the place Amsterdam.

It went something like this:
(Nana, correct me if this isn't your version)

There were three jolly fishermen.
There were three jolly fishermen.
Fisher, fisher, men, men, men.
Fisher, fisher, men, men, men.
There were three jolly fishermen.

The first on’e name was Abraham. ...
Abra, Abra, ham, ham, ham.

The second one’s name was I-I-saac. ...
I, I, sac, sac, sac.

The third one’s name was Ja-a-cob. ...
Ja, Ja, cob, cob, cob.

They all went down to Jericho. ...
Jeri, Jeri, cho, cho, cho.

They should have gone to Amsterdam. ...
Amster, Amster, shh, shh, shh.

You shouldn’t say that naughty word. ...
naughty, naughty, word, word, word.

We’re going to say it any way. ...
Any, any, way, way, way.

They should have gone to Amsterdam. ...
Amster, Amster, dam, dam, dam.
